2017 Westgate Home and Garden Tour

Join Us for the 7th Annual Tour

Long-known by west side residents as a hidden gem in the historic Hilltop area of Columbus, Westgate is just now becoming known to the rest of the city for its quiet, picturesque streets, wood-frame craftsman-style cottages and limestone accented houses, and its welcoming community feel.

The unique aspect of the Westgate Home & Garden Tour is that while the homes and gardens may be smaller in size and expense compared to other ‘tour-worthy’ neighborhoods in Columbus, Westgate properties abound with affordable, doable design ideas and efficient, creative uses for the modest indoor and outdoor spaces found here. Past tours have included a professional photography studio incorporated into a garage, upstairs spaces transformed into a 3-person office, an art studio, and a backyard that contained an organic vegetable garden that produced well beyond what the resident family of 5 could consume.

Last year’s tour is the first to feature homes on Letchworth; two Cape Cods built in the 40s offer ideas to maximize every sq. inch of your home. We also had Westgate’s own Airbnb, the first “Little Free Library” in the area, and a two-room master bathroom with his and her vanities, As our tagline says, expect to see the “unexpected”

Once again a portion of the tour proceeds will fund the Westgate Neighborhood Scholarship.  The WNA established the scholarship as an extension of our mission to help Westgate thrive.

Developed between the 1920s and 1950s, part of the neighborhood was built on the site of Camp Chase, a Civil War Union military training and Confederate prisoner-of-war camp. (The camp’s cemetery, maintained by the federal government, still stands at the southeastern corner of the neighborhood, and holds the remains of 2,000 Confederate soldiers.) Other neighborhood amenities include the Hilltop branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library, public, private and charter schools, churches, and Westgate Park — a well-utilized 46 acre facility that includes a recreation center, tennis courts, a pond, newly renovated enclosed shelter house, and the first rain garden to be built in a Columbus park.
